Labour Relations Board Update:

The United Food and Commercial Workers is a large Alberta Union with a team of lawyers. We are constantly monitoring the behaviour of the management of the Elbow River Casino. There are numerous laws that protect employee’s rights to participate in union activity without discrimination or penalty.

Our ongoing concerns are being expressed in charges we have filed against Elbow River Casino. Elbow River management now faces charges at the Labour Board and will have to attend Labour Board hearings.

If Elbow River overreacts to the process of unionization they will find themselves in serious trouble. Alberta law clearly protects employee’s rights, and we are hoping that Elbow River management sees the light.

We are more than willing to form a partnership with Elbow River Casino to ensure that wages, benefits, and improved workplace fairness are negotiated sensibly so that employees can see improvements in their working lives, and that the casino becomes a more positive workplace and therefore a more successful enterprise. There is no need for a fight with management. Our union only wants to remind them of the importance of their staff and how investment in the staff will create a positive business outcome.
